New Way program is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation operating a Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program. We provide 24-hour, culturally relevant, trauma-informed, age and developmentally appropriate residential therapeutic services to male children 12-17 years of age and non-minor dependents who have a history of special interventional and therapeutic needs resulting from abuse, neglect, commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), or LGBTQ issues, as well as law enforcement or family services-impacted youths and families.
New Way’s Residential Treatment Program is dedicated to person-centered, age and developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant, and trauma informed delivery of services. The program provides individualized care and treatment sensitive to youths’ unique and specific needs. The program will have a maximum capacity of six residents at each of our two locations. The minimum Child Care Counselor to resident ratio is one to three while in the community. A minimum of two personnel will be present whenever there is/are (a) youth(s) present in the Facility or on its grounds during waking hours. The ratio for some clients may sometimes vary depending on the need to increase supervision, if client’s emotional or physical stability demands it
The goal of our Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program is to provide age and developmentally appropriate intensive services in a structured environment that helps mitigate undesirable or anti-social behaviors, allowing personal growth. This helps the youth we serve reintegrate into the community with a better set of personal tools and coping strategies. During transition, we work with youth, families and other supportive individuals, agencies, and organizations, to achieve the stable and enduring positive relationships so necessary for realizing positive life outcomes. Ultimately when available the goal of New Way is to reunify residents with family and prepare them for adulthood.
The New Way STRTP offers intense counseling, milieu treatment, and daily care to children and NMDs with special emotional and/or behavioral problems. New Way will work with government agencies and other organizations in assisting clients with their individual goals in achieving to become the better part of themselves through sobriety, and living a positive lifestyle. These needs may also extend to medical, educational, or developmental conditions. As part of the individual treatment, New Way will continuously research and engage the community, communit-based organizations, and service providers that have specialty services suited to the population. New Way is aware of and sensitive to the unique needs of the children, CSEC, LGBTQ and NMD and families and will ensure to provide on-going support of its clients. Typically, residents have been abused, abandoned, and neglected and often have a significant history of acting out in a prior placement. The goal is to improve each child’s self-esteem and problem-solving skills, address personal and family issues, and prepare him or her to either return to their family or to a less restrictive placement.
In 2021, New Way Short-Term Residential Treatment Program became a certified Medi-cal Mental Health Program within the County of Ventura. With the support of Ventura County Behavioral Health, New Way STRTP has set the standard in order to maintain and improve its certification.
