Child Care Counselor (On-Call)

Location: Ventura County, CA Schedule:

Salary Range: $38,200 –$62,008 annually Opportunities for overtime available!



Since2008, New Way Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) has been transforming the lives of at-risk youth throughout Ventura County. We are a non-profit, Joint Commission Accredited organization dedicated to providing compassionate, structured, and therapeutic residential care to boys ages 12–18.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a safe, family-like environment where young people learn accountability, respect, emotional regulation, and the skills needed to thrive. Your Impact

As a Child Care Counselor (CCC), you’ll be a mentor, teacher, and role model — helping youth navigate life’s challenges and celebrate its victories. You’ll work closely with our treatment team to provide consistent care, emotional support, and a nurturing environment that fosters growth, safety, and resilience.

Each day offers new opportunities to make a lasting difference — whether it’s preparing a meal together, helping a young person through a difficult moment, or celebrating a breakthrough in therapy or school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor residents within the home and during community activities.

  • Model positive behavior, life skills and emotional regulation strategies

  • Prepare meals and ensure household routines support a therapeutic environment

  • Administer medications accurately and maintain detailed documentation

  • Transport residents safely to appointments, school and outings

  • Maintain records of allowance logs, communication logs and incident reports and mental health progress notes

  • Collaborate with parents, providers and family team to support each youths need and service care plan

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, child development, or related field preferred

-OR minimum of 3 years’ experience working with at-risk or emotionally disturbed youth

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Must be able to pass DOJ and FBI background checks.

  • Effective communication skills and a passion for helping others are essential.

  • Food Handler’s Permit(preferred).



Schedule& Work Type

  • Full-time: Wednesday–Saturday schedule (detailed above).

  • Per-diem opportunities also available for flexible or on-call work.

  • Work Location: On-site– Oxnard, CA
